CLARISSA SPATA is a versatile Soprano, singing a range of repertoire from Opera to Music Theatre, to Jazz. She graduated with Distinction as a Voice Major at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she studied under Maree Ryan and Maestro Simon Kenway. She realized her dream of being an opera singer when at the young age of 11, was chosen to be a part of the Opera Australia Children's Chorus, singing in repeat seasons of Cavalleria Rusticana/I Pagliacci, Turandot and La Boheme, directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Clarissa has won several awards including Opera Foundation Australia's Lady Fairfax New York Award, The Royal Overseas League Bursary Award, she was twice awarded The Dame Joan Sutherland Encouragement Award, the Pollard People's Choice Award for Performance Excellence and was recognised as an Outstanding Artist by the McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge.
Clarissa has sang principal roles with Opera Australia's Touring Company, performing the roles of Pamina, First Lady and Papagena in The Magic Flute, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Cinderella and Clorinda in Cinderella and the Soprano roles of Clown/Lady Sue in the Australian opera production of Sid The Serpent Who Wanted To Sing.
Other repertoire include the roles of the Sorceress and First Witch in two separate productions of Dido and Aenaes, Quivera in The Indian Queen, Gianetta in The Gondoliers, Cosette in Les Miserables, Kate/Lilli Vanessi in Kiss Me Kate and Jenny Lind in Barnum.
Clarissa has toured Japan with ENCORE Vocal group, sang "in disguise" in SMA Productions' incognito shows such as Opera by Disguise, as the role of Maria DeAngelo, regularly performs with The 7 Sopranos as a core member (Australian operatic group created by Soprano and Director, Tarita Botsman) and recorded on their self titled album with the ABC in 2013. In 2010, she supported Australian Singer/Songwriter Rick Price in his Sydney show of his Australian Tour.
The end of 2014 saw Clarissa appearing with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra in their Mozart Requiem, conducted by Maestro Paul Fitzsimon, and over Christmas and New Year, Clarissa undertook a National Tour of China, performing a Showcase of Music Theatre favorites from Phantom of the Opera, The King and I, Westside Story and The Sound of Music.
In 2015, Clarissa performed the role of Micaela in Opera New England's Carmen, she then went on to perform the role of Papagena once again, for Opera Australia's national tour of The Magic Flute, conducted by Simon Kenway and Paul Fitzsimon.
In 2016, Clarissa perfomed as the principal Soprano alongside Teddy Tahu-Rhodes and James Egglestone in Opera in the Arboretum with Pearl Beach Opera, conducted by Patrick Brennan.Clarissa was then offered the Soprano operatic role for Princess Cruises mainstage production of BRAVO as a regular guest artist, as well as performing her new operatic duo show called Le Stelle, with Baritone Javier Vilarino.
2016 also saw Clarissa sharing the stage with Australia's most loved cross over Tenor, SONY Artist and Australia's Got Talent Winner, Mark Vincent in his "Love will Lead the Way " tour and his Christmas Concerts as his special guest artist.
October also saw the release of The Seven Sopranos second album, "Popcorn" - Songs of Stage and Screen, in which Clarissa, being a core member of the group, performs in solo and ensemble pieces. Their video clip of "Keep young and beautiful" has seen over 900,000 views so far.
The end of 2016 saw Clarissa going on to perform the role of First Lady with The Australian International Opera Company's production of Die Zauberflote, conducted by Patrick Miller, which toured China.
In 2017, Clarissa was invited back to once again perform the Soprano principal role in BRAVO (Princess Cruises) as a guest artist, and perform her operatic duo Le Stelle with Javier Vilarino, and toured New Zealand with The Seven Sopranos
The start of 2018 saw Clarissa covering the role of Musetta in Opera Australia's La Boheme on Sydney Harbour, directed by Andrew Morton and Conducted by Maestro Brian Castles Onion. Clarissa then throughout 2018 supported Mark Vincent on his "Young at Heart" Tour, accompanied by The Serenade Orchestra, as well as performing the role of High Priestess in The Australian International Opera Company's Tour of Aida.
In 2019, Clarissa launched her seventh cast for BRAVO on Princess Cruises, supported Mark Vincent in his April shows in Sydney, and toured as head Soprano in Australian Global Entertainments "A Musical Spectacular" Proms concerts throughout May and June
2020 has started off with some beautiful shows around Australia, as Clarissa once again features in "Afternoon at the Proms" Musical Spectacular featuring Virtuoso Violinist Ian Cooper.
Clarissa is also the Soprano and Creative Director of FUSION Vocal Group which combines the talents of 3-4 professional singers, singing repertoire from Opera, Musical Theatre and Jazz. She performs in concerts, Luxury Cruise Liners and Corporate Functions both Nationally and Internationally.
